Taking Measure, Making Progress: Tethys Annual All-Hands Meeting

Last Friday, the Tethys Geoscience Foundation team gathered in Fort Collins, Colorado for our annual POSE All-Hands meeting. The day-long session provided valuable in-person collaboration time for team members typically distributed across the United States.

The meeting offered an opportunity to reflect on our collective achievements over the past year. We celebrated significant achievements, including platform enhancements, community growth, and strengthened drive in our mission of bridging data with accessibility.

Momentum Through Collaboration

A cornerstone achievement was the formal establishment of the Tethys Geoscience Foundation, a strategic collaboration between Aquaveo, Lynker, and Brigham Young University (BYU). This partnership has created an organizational home for our growing community of users and developers. The Foundation has successfully forged clear connections between our initiatives, such as Tethys Platform and GeoGLOWS.

Our team actively engaged with the broader geospatial community throughout the year, participating in several major conferences including FOSS46, AGU’s Annual Meeting, and the USC 2025 LA Geospatial Summit. These events provided invaluable opportunities to connect with users, helping us understand their evolving needs while showcasing our latest developments. The feedback gathered has directly shaped our platform plans and community initiatives.

With a solid foundation of progress to build upon, the team’s focus turned toward an exciting milestone on the horizon – our inaugural Tethys Summit.

Announcing the Tethys Summit 2025

We’re pleased to announce the Tethys Summit, taking place on July 14-15, 2025, in Tampa, Florida.

This focused, two-day event will bring together professionals from across the Earth science community, including researchers, software developers, educators, and geospatial specialists. The summit will provide a forum for sharing innovations and fostering collaboration among diverse stakeholders.

We invite individuals across the geospatial sciences and application development to join us in Tampa this July! Keep an eye on our social media pages to see further updates and announcements regarding this event.

Expertise Meets Opportunities

The Tethys ecosystem offers unique value for established professionals and organizations in geospatial fields. Our growing network has opportunities for meaningful collaboration between users, research institutions, and developers who might otherwise work in isolation.

For organizations and educators, engaging with Tethys provides access to a community of skilled practitioners and innovative solutions that can accelerate project creation. Experienced practitioners who contribute to or mentor within the Tethys community can gain visibility while helping shape the future direction of geospatial tools and applications.

Building Your Future with Tethys

The Tethys Platform continues to offer valuable opportunities for professional development. By joining the Tethys community and contributing to projects, participants develop marketable skills while building a portfolio of work that demonstrates their capabilities to potential employers.

As a free, open-source platform, Tethys eliminates financial barriers to advanced geospatial development and learning. Contributors can focus entirely on mastering concepts and creating innovative solutions rather than navigating licensing restrictions or access limitations.

Charting Our Course

The enthusiasm and sense of purpose generated during our All-Hands meeting will carry forward as we prepare for this important gathering. Together, we can advance the future of accessible, collaborative Earth science.

As we prepare for Tethys Summit and beyond, we remain committed to advancing accessible, collaborative Earth science tools that serve the diverse needs across our community. We invite you to join us on this journey – whether through the upcoming summit, community contributions, or donating to the cause.
