Tethys Summit: One Week Away
—
Our first inaugural Tethys Summit is coming up next week, and we’re looking forward to bringing together the Earth science community for two days of presentations, workshops, and collaboration around open-source geospatial solutions.
If you haven’t registered for this event, make sure to check out our Registration Guide and prepare to join us at The Westshore Grand in sunny Tampa, Florida!
Event Details
Tethys Summit takes place over two intensive days, featuring a mix of plenary sessions, breakout tracks, and hands-on activities designed to maximize learning and networking opportunities. The program includes keynote presentations from leading experts in hydrologic modeling, geospatial technology, and environmental applications, alongside technical demonstrations and collaborative workshops.
Attendees will have the opportunity to participate in three specialized tracks: Cutting Edge Tethys for advanced platform development, Tethys Platform Essentials for foundational knowledge, and Data and Services focusing on GEOGLOWS and integration strategies. The summit also features an app contest where participants can showcase innovative Tethys-based applications and compete for recognition within the community.
Beyond the formal presentations, the summit provides time for networking, hands-on workshops, and exploring potential partnerships. Whether you’re a researcher, educator, software developer, or environmental professional, you’ll find sessions tailored to your interests and opportunities to connect with others working at the intersection of Earth science and open-source technology.
This section would complement the existing content by providing more concrete details about the event structure while maintaining the same tone and design consistency as the other sections.
What to Expect
The summit will feature speakers from across the Earth science spectrum—from hydrologic modeling experts to GIS developers, climate researchers to disaster management professionals. You’ll hear about innovative applications built on the Tethys Platform, learn about GEOGLOWS water forecasting initiatives, and discover how open-source tools are solving real-world environmental challenges.
The program includes both plenary sessions and breakout tracks, giving attendees flexibility to dive deep into areas of particular interest. We’ll also have dedicated time for an app contest, where participants can showcase their Tethys-based applications and compete for recognition.

Finding Your Way Around
Talks and presentations will take place in the Bayshore III room, which serves as our main plenary space. Registration will be located in the foyer area right in front of Bayshore III—you can’t miss it when you arrive.
For breakout sessions and development-focused workshops, we’ll be using additional spaces:
- Break-out 1: Suncoast room
- Break-out 2: Restaurant area
Three Tracks, Multiple Perspectives
The summit features three parallel tracks during afternoon sessions:
- Cutting Edge Tethys: Focus on advanced platform development and new features
- Tethys Platform Essentials: Perfect for those getting started or wanting to deepen their foundational knowledge
- Data and Services: Emphasis on GEOGLOWS, data management, and service integration
Ready to Connect
Whether you’re a long-time member of the Tethys community or discovering it for the first time, the summit offers opportunities to learn, share, and connect with others working at the intersection of Earth science and technology.
See you next week for what promises to be an engaging start to what we hope will become an annual tradition for our community.
